WLA Chapter Scholarship Recipients and the 2010 WLA Chapter Intern

West Los Angeles JACL is proud to offer two scholarships:

The West Los Angeles Chapter offers a $1,000 scholarship to one college-bound graduating high school senior.

The Chiyo M. Hattori Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of a long-time chapter supporter and is given to a student pursuing a career in medicine.

West Los Angeles JACL offers a summer internship, designed to give the participant an opportunity to work with the JACL at the district and chapter levels. The intern works on both district and chapter projects, and is hosted in the Pacific Southwest District Regional Office, located in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles.

Intership Details

Job Title:  JACL West Los Angeles Chapter Intern

Location: JACL – Pacific Southwest District Office, 244 S. San Pedro Street, Room 406, Los Angeles CA 90012

Time Frame: 2 months (8 weeks), Full-Time, though flexible with intern’s schedule

Requirements: Interns should be 18 or older, preferably a college student or recent college graduate.

Stipend: Upon completion of duties, the intern will receive a $1,500 stipend.

Summary Statement: Under the supervision of the Pacific Southwest District program coordinator and working with other JACL staff members and volunteers, the intern will focus on supporting existing WLA chapter programs as well as working with PSW staff to implement new programs for the chapter.  The intern will be placed in the District Office located in Little Tokyo.

What Will You Learn?: The WLA Chapter intern will have a unique opportunity to learn a little bit of everything about JACL and its service to the public. Working in Little Tokyo, the intern will meet other nonprofit staff members, take part in community events and advocate on causes important to the organization.
